About Us

Our Studio
Our space is a dedicated aerial acrobatics & circus studio in the north of Canberra. We like to think of ourselves as a playground for all ages. We opened in Nov 2015 with one adult silks class and a handful of students with the intention of growing & developing in time. In 2016, we added kids & teens classes and the studio quickly grew. We now have classes for toddlers - adults for all levels, offering aerial acrobatics classes - aerial silks, lyra & trapeze - to a variety of ground based circus classes. We also offer yoga, strength & flexibilty & a wide range of workshops throughout the year! See our timetables for our current class schedules: Kids Timetable & Adult Timetable.

Our aim is to teach you tools and give you the opportunity to discover what your body can do on & off the ground in a safe & supportive environment. Adults can progress at their own pace with our casual classes, taking classes as frequently or infrequently as you'd like. Kids classes run via 10 week terms which follow the ACT school terms. Whether you're looking for an alternative to gym workouts, you're an athlete in other disciplines and want to try something new, or you just love aerial acrobatics and want to learn more, you will enjoy our zany studio where you are guaranteed to have fun while gaining strength, endurance, flexibility, body awareness & self confidence.

We host Showcases where new to advanced students can show their friends & family what they've learned and offer an outlet for creative expression. We are home to Cirque de CBR, formerally Solco Acro, Canberra's own aerial acrobatics & circus arts performance troupe. We are consistent with Australian industry standards for rigging, and we pride ourselves with our high standard of aerial instruction following a unique & comprehensive aerial curriculum. Our teachers have diligent in-house training learning safety & spotting techniques.

Learn, Play, Explore

Our Philosophy
"Play" tends to be a term used synonymously with children. In our modern life as adults, we spend much of our time sedentary. Sure we can go for a run or to the gym, but most of our day is sitting down & looking at a screen. Luckily there is no rule book stating we can no longer play as adults, so we wanted to create a playground for all ages - a safe & nurturing environment for participants to get their play on and gain friendships while staying fit. Kids & Teens spend much of their day sitting at school, the majority of our adult students have day jobs & have been siting all day, so getting to move your body whether on the ground or on an apparatus brings out joy & gleaming smiles. Play involves exploration, investigating what your body can do and discovering your own abilities, the workout becomes secondary & fitness an after-effect. You'll find our warm ups tend to follow this playful narrative, and can be quite unconventional using functional movement & dynamic stretching. Our objective is to bring playful activities into our sedentary lifestyles, so you'll often hear us say we do something "because it's fun". Science is finding that play improves brain function & boosts energy which in turn keeps you feeling young & energetic, to name a few benefits. Come and get your play on!

"We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing."
- George Bernard Shaw

Having a playful spirit, Cher always dreamed of creating an adult playground. She is originally from Los Angeles, CA, where she got her first trapeze almost 20 years ago and fell in love. She has studied aerial arobatics with top aerialists from around the world, including with several Cirque De Soliel performers. She found herself in Canberra & has decided to put all her awesomeness into creating Aerial Sports.

Bek Kordas

Kids, Teens, Trapeze, Lyra, & Circus Skills Instructor
Bio

Bek fell into the circus scene in 2011 when she was studying Theatre/Media in Bathurst, NSW. Having started in gymnastics as a teen, and then specialising in physical theatre at uni, Bek completed her degree which she promptly ditched because circus was way cooler and it just so happened to combine both of the things she loved. Bek specialises in static trapeze and group acro, but has a whole lotta knowledge and skill across most other circus disciplines. Along with moulding the minds and bodies of the next circus generations, Bek is currently studying her Masters of Secondary Teaching.
